avoiding revision study.

felt too bored, so i thoguht i'd blog... but too lazy so it's not gonna be long, or very eventful.

korea was awesome, but as aforementioned im too lazy at the moment to blog about it, so if you're very curious then just ask me about it next time you see me haha.

a few korea related things i will mentioned are.....

i became addicted to this watered-down peach juice from korea called 2% ...and i discovered if you look carefully in a few convenience stores around melbourne (and probably asian supermarkets as well) you can find it too!

i-pu-ro = 2% i love it!!!!!

another thing possibly worthy of mention, which not many people know is, i bought clip in hair extensions, randomly in the perfect colour to match my hair.

im really bad at clipping them in so that its not obvious though...just discovered i think it works better if i haven't just washed and straightened my hair. so yes, eventually i may start wearing them out occasionally.

here's one half of the hello kitty stuff i bought...all really cheap, just from a regular korean supermarket's kids stationary section. each was like $1-$2

and i also bought a hello kitty beach towel, hand towel and face washer, for about $8 all up. impressive!! especially seeing as Hong Kong airport sell their hello kitty notebooks and stuff for at least $7. over-priced!!!

and now i'll finish up with some pictures from yumcha 2 weeks back *^_^*

p.s. my brother and i've just been discussing the classic 'rock the casbah' song... u should really check out the wikipedia theories on it. it's quite amusing!

long long ago i used to write blogs...

Oh wow, it seems like forever since i put an entry up one here... and well, i guess it has been a while. excuses? well, i've been getting into facebook alittle bit im ashamed to say. but more than that i use a chinese version of facebook which connects all the chinese students in unis together...and i got some tutoring with a sweet korean girl named katie, and i've been doing bible studies with the koreans, and what with weekly reading preparation for class each week, 2 class presentations and a stack of assignments, i guess for once i've been kept running off my feet, super busy! i've been trying to meet up for a sushi lunch with xinwen since about week 2 or 3 and i still havnt managed to fit that into my schedule yet, so yeh, i guess for once i really am kind of busy it seems!

another major thing that's happened recently is my beautiful dear nanna has passed away, and well, that all came as a shock and of course took some getting used to, (i wont go into details cos the internet is not the place for it, but she's left lots of beautiful memories with us of her crazy antics, active and self-less life, and i know she'll be doing fine now too), and so put together with schoolwork/ assignments/ tutoring/ general life etc its been a lot on my plate.

if people have read the previous blog entry they're probably wondering what ever came of the korean adventure. well, happily (and kind of scarily!) it's coming true. on 14th may im skipping 2 weeks of uni to go to korea and (hopefully having done some training first!!) take part modelling in a big fashion show! airfare and accomodation expenses paid for. so ridiculous! so crazy! and so so so unbelievable. i believe it's a miracle because well, how else do such things happen?

so yes, if u've noticed the profile pics on my facebook and msn seem to have changed to riduclously posed pictures like the one below, u now know its in relation to that.

people who wanna check out the uni agency website (in korean) can do so here: http://model.tk.ac.kr/

the fourth option from the left across the top in the menu is the tab to click if u wanna see random other students portfolio pictures. or u can try here. there's girls and guys but so far ive only had a look at the girls.
and i saw enough to be a) completely freaked out by how chronically underweight half the girls are if they werent making up or exaggerating the truth of the height/weight measurements and b) entirely freaked out by how pretty everyone is and the fact that im expected to be on a level with them. oh dear!! and worse linda sent them wrong info about my measurements cos instead of asking me she just wrote what she thought!!! so if i suck in my tummy with everything i've got, im still 1 inch too big! and my bust, well lets hope nothing's meant to be fitted (i.e. strapless evening gown style) cos she over estimated that but 1 inch too!

guess my saving grace is that i have blonde hair and so hopefully that's all anyone will see when they look at me! anyway..looking on the bright side. (putting aside that fact that im already likely to be shorter, fatter, and more common than everyone else), if i trip over on the runway or manage to make a total embarrassment of myself in some other way, at least it'd all be part of a life memorable experience! actually, that hasnt come out sounding right but i think u can get the idea. the experience of trying this is all really cool and unexpected so even if things go drastically wrong, it should still be amazing. anyway what do i have to lose? the majority of people there will never see me again so... ^_^

final note before signing off and letting this blog run dry again for a while. i've just changed the music again. yay u scream! u've probably all been driven mad by the last song, sorry!

this new one is a korean song, to fit with the korean excitement, by a korean girl BoA, who actually mostly sings in japanese cos she's into their music industry, but i kind of like the korean versions better sometimes i think. i dont know, slightly different feeling

called 'everlasting', and the reason i picked it is cos we listened to it in my japanese pop culture lecture today (but the jap version of course) and i think it's beautiful. but im torn between whether i should put the slow version up or the slightly faster one...hmm...which shall i decide??

an unexpected turn.

imagine you won the lottery... what would you do with it? do you seriously know? maybe not, 'cause lets face it, it's just one of those things that's not going to happen.

okay, let's take a step back...how about winning any competition? like a free holiday, or a car or something? again, in reality it's one of those things that's so unlikely. lucky things always seems to happen to someone else don't they....

but guess what! i've got a lucky thing happening to me!! so lucky, and so crazy and so unexpected!! im still in shock but getting excited.

what?! what?! i know. suspense is great isnt it!

. . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . . .

im going to korea for 2 weeks - in may!!

. . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . . .

for free!!

. . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . . .

to model in a fashion show!!

. . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . . .

clothes designed by an international designer!

. . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . . .

again, i shall remind you - for free!!

it is so amazing, and it is all thanks to beautiful linda. she met this professor from the modelling faculty of a Korean university, and he's been setting up a hair and beauty college in melbourne and so through him linda somehow managed to convince him to send 3 of us to korea (where we will meet up with and be joined by Kyla!) and we're gonna take part in their faculty's big fashion show which is apparently designed by Andre Kim, (i have know idea who he is, but apparently he's a well-known korean designer). he has a wikipedia page it seems, so im about to read it. lol.

i guess you can say we're acting as a promotion for the school in melbourne, as representatives of melbourne, 3 of us being melbournians (and the other 2 korean who have lived in melb ^_^!)

our airfares will be taken care of and we get free accomodation at the uni (sounds dodgy but linda thinks its quite good. probably like for teachers or sth). it's for 2 weeks, and the fashion shows are over 2 days towards the end of the trip. best of all we get time to ourselves to visit seoul, shopping and meet up with friends.

it really sounds like a dream. hence im expecting some horrible disaster to fall down on our plans! but yeah for now it sounds amazing, so i guess i just have to wait and see what happens!! korea! how very cool!

and even better... i just starting thinking ...korea....means...bibimbap!!

and other yummy food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EXCITEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

update:

just checked out the portfolio on his website and i hope i get to wear something like this!!!

haha. kidding. nah, im expecting something much more strange 'potato sack-like', that's my idea of what runway designs are usually like!

this appears to be another of his works. and for the record i swear the girl in the middle is russian. dont ask how i know. im just sure of it. lol

seems he does a lot in evening gowns and wedding collections. but i already know there's no way we'd get to touch that.

this is gorgeous! beautiful colour!

it shall be excitement if it really all happens!

Isn't this beautiful?

im so distracted and yet also bored at the moment. i have things i should be doing, namely university h/w and reading, and even an assignment i could be working on but, ugh i cannot be bothered! the weather is too warm to start with, and i feel tired and sleepy and my silly eyes have got moisturiser or something in them. im also hungry but not hungry and there's nothing to eat in this house anyway!! so anyway, clearly u can see im very content complaining, but that's about it.

funnily enough im going into a pink craze again, wherein i am contemplating making/sewing a barbie pink beanbag for my room....

i doubt it will ever happen though!

speaking of barbie pink though,
doesnt this model look extraordinarily like barbie?

i believe its changing my opinion of pink eyeshadow, which i thought was not possible to look good. i have tried pink once or twice in the past but always made it look like my eyes were allergic and irritated to something. but this looks pretty at least!

meh, i never wear eyeshadow anyway so its a waste of time contemplating it i guess. but it still is quite pretty.

Long days of classes are back again.
Had a rather long and tiring seeming day yesterday. Twas the first of my 2 long days full of 5-6hrs of classes…and like all good (or in this case bad) long days of classes it meant I had to wake up bright and early (in this case 7:20am) to get there.
Despite my waking up and getting to the busstop on time, somehow the bus seemed to take an extraordinarily long time to reach the city and so I ended up 15 mins late for my first lecture. Not drastic I know…but there weren’t enough chairs in the table (a table and chairs kind of lecture) so then some other girl and I had to make a lot of long clattering noises as we got chairs (unfortunately heavy wheely chairs) from another room and dragged them in.

Following that I had a 2hr break but I only needed to kill one hr of it before a lunch date with xinwen and aileen so I decided to stay in the uni and just loiter around. Eventually the hour passed and so I went to have sushi with the girls. Or did i? alas turns out due to timetable errors or sth. They both had classes on during that hour so we had to reschedule. So …another long boring hour of waiting until my next class!

My next class was Chinese and it was entirely just introductions so nothing really special to note. Directly after was 2hrs of Russian, again not enough tables and chairs as they seem to have really screwed up with almost every one of our Russian classrooms in that regard. Im talking people literally sitting on chairs stuck in the doorway of the classroom! Anyways we started reading and writing aka. Trying our best to decipher the alphabets; printed and handwrititen, capital and lower case, ‘cause yes, they’re different you know! And we’re not allowed to write the printed version, we’re only allowed to write handwritten, but we have to be able to read either. Its very confusing at this point in time, to say the least!

After that I ran as quick as I could across the campus to my asian traditions lecture which clashed with the previous hr I’d been in Russian, hence I was basically turning up 45-60mins late! So naturally the plan was to open the door to the theater very quietly, slip in, grab the nearest seat and very inconspicuously get out a notebook and pen. Part A went alright, I opened the door without too much ado, but there were NO NEARBY SEATS!

By this stage most people in the hall had noticed me, so I was like ‘meh I shall walk across the front and over to the other side where there are some seats’, which I did, rather embarrassed of course. The lecturer was busy writing on a board at the time so I thought I’d more or less succeeded unnoticed, ‘cept he turned around just as I was about half-way through crossing the front. He decided to bring further attention to me by exclaiming ‘wooahh! You’re late!!’ in disbelief. I hastily sat down and tried my best to sink into the chair, but got distracted staring at the powerpoint of the subject which appeared NOT TO BE the right one for my class!! It was all about something to do with Australian practices!

At this point I was like, what if my class already finished and this is some other random class? I was contemplating fleeing with my tail between my legs (figuratively, you and I both know I don’t have a tail of any sort) . luckily I guess, the slide changed and I saw that it was indeed the class I was meant to be in, they were just randomly talking about some abstract things. About 15 rather uninformative minutes later the class was over and I fled!

The bus home was rather uncomfortable ‘cause I got a headache but wasn’t really in a position where I could open a window easily. And alas no one else on the bus seemed to want a window open ‘cause none of them were open. I got home, tired and hot of course. Probably added another pink tinge to my very slight layers of sunburn that are developing each day too. Must moisturise!

Mum and dad were working late so I had to prepare some dinner for the family and then various other things caused me to be rather late to bed, which in itself is not unusual.

Anyways, today was a much looked forward to day, because it was of course starting at exactly the same time, a nice 7:20am start, the bus was likewise slow and late hence why next week I must unfortunately catch a bus ½ an hour earlier (means waking up before 7am!!), the only real difference in class timetable between yesterday and today being that today I had an extra hr of class! Seeing as yesterday’s seemed to be going so well I was of course looking forward to a second dose of it all. But today was surprisingly better.looking back on the events im not really sure why actually, ‘cause today sounds kind of awful! I can say I didn’t really grasp a lot of the Russian we did, my Chinese class was almost torturously slow and quite boring, I bludged my way through a tute for the traditions subject I hadn’t read the readings for, and worst of all my last 3 hrs of class were tucked away in the ridiculous location of Bouverie Street!

Bouverie Street is the most ridiculous location in the world. Id checked it on a map, and new it was somewhere around Lincoln square. Damned if that helped me. Luckily the 15min break between after class changeover was to my advantage and I’d been let out of class 10mins early too, so the fact that I walked around in the sun for 25mins before I eventually managed to track down the place was not so much of a concern. Finding the classroom itself was also a challenge, but a little more easily solved.

However! Turns out despite no notifications, emails or lms announcements our tute was obviously not on. Myself and 3 other girls all turned up, introduced ourselves and then figured we’d go and have a coffee somewhere for the next 45mins before our final 2 hr lecture for the same subject. So yep, if u’re looking for a clever way to make friends with your classmates I highly recommend turning up to a cancelled tute and then making a coffee date of it! We basically got to know a whole lot of random stuff about each of our summer holidays, past, plans, future etc.

And then of course we went to class. And here I believe is where the whole day turned really good and worthwhile. The lecture was really unexpectedly good! It’s a geography/ social study based subject on china and I really wasn’t sure what it’d be like. But the teacher is a hilliarious! Chinese guy about 40 or sth and he’s really funny. He kind of speaks a bit chingrishy but its mainly just his accent, anyway his style and his topics are either really good or really funny. Sometimes he kind of forgot the point he was trying to say so he’d just go ‘...ANYWAY!!’ and turn topic. But either way, the stuff he talked about and what we’ll be looking at in the course seems both entertaining, informative or interesting. I wish I could describe it better but I think it’s one of those things u’ve got to see. Like he was just emphasizing how he has all these stories t tell us from inside china so he gives examples about timeperiods talking about how the generation just older than him were the red guards, but ‘cause he was in primary school he only got to hold a little red flag on a stick and march around. As he talks he kind of re-enacts, so yes, its kind of amusing.

And he just talked about everything and nothing all at once! somehow he started talking about all the different ‘animal names’ associated with prostitutes and telling us that taxi drivers in china can tell us stories all about it and it was really funny for everyone because no one really knew what he was going on about. I at least could understand some of the relation ‘cause I’ve studied the language and so know that the word for chicken and prostitute are fairly alike.

And then he spent about 15mins promoting this other field trip in china subject that he teachers in the mid year break and how he just wants to go and buy more little mao badges in some market there!
Everyone left the theater having laughed heartily at least 10 times in the 2 hrs. so yes, it’s a pleasantly good way to finish up my classes for the week.

One of the girls who’d come to the tute/ coffee and lecture lives in doncaster too, so we ended up commuting together and it was really cool to have a huge long conversation again. Her relatives practically all live in china and she’d just been visiting them in the last few months so we had lots to talk about. And, (cathy may be interested in this), she does swingdancing on thursday lunchtimes with the uni! They go to some place near the commonwealth bank on bourke/Elizabeth and have swing dance lessons, and in the evening its like social dancing or something. Anyway it sounds all very crazy and exciting.

And now I am home, alone, and tired. And putting-off my bits and pieces of h/w to be done by classes next week. And yes, once again I feel hot and incredibly thirsty, so…
I am off to drink some green tea….

this late already?!

eeek!! it is 1am already and i have got class tomorrow, starting at 12 i know, but i stupidly agreed to meet leo's nephew (turns out he's a nephew not a cousin) at 11 and stupid doncaster being way out with no train station i have to wake up at 8:30am!! oh woo! 8:30am how terrible i know, but im actually serious. i dont sleep well these nights and today i got up at 9am and had a headache the whole morning.

and alas my staying up late was all in vain because i am no closer to finding a better/ closer/ less crowded/ convenient homestay for leo's nephew or even an apartment in the cbd or nearby. ...argh!! what to do? i shall check out the noticeboard in union house tomorrow, but im not really expecting much...please oh please let me be pleasantly surprised....

though probably homestay is a better option anyway, cos i have a sneaking feeling he'll know next to nothing about cooking his own dinners. he keeps asking me every few days 'so, what do u eat at university??' i keep telling him bread, or sushi or pasta or salad. but it seems he's skeptical cos he keeps asking, obviously hoping for a different answer!

*sigh* why do i land myself the responsibility of trying to mend this housing situation?? i just wanna get things fixed and smoothed over asap, especially 'cause s i dont want it all being related back to china that melbourne is a crap and inconvenient city with rude unfriendly (homestay) people! damn u silly homestay people!

p.s. had a nice day with kate and cathy at the docklands...i shall post about it tomorrow maybe....

there and back again.

been to china once more, and clearly seeing as im once again on blogger, i am back again.

i've been tossing up whether or not i should try and put all my emails and a few photos up as blog entries to make up for the last few months and the time i've been away. possibly i will,...but i'm lazy so i havent actually finished writing the final 2 emails yet!! perhaps i will write this entry first and then slip the emails and photos in chronologically prior to this one. that sounds reasonable enough.

okay! well, cathy's probably been wondering why i hadnt posted up photos from (tuesday, was it??) our get together last week. liz cooked biscuits which were originally going to be yo-yos, but she ran out of time to ice them before she had to go out. so biscuits they remained.

and we cooked a banana loaf (or two!). well i was being all camera snap-happy as usual, but this time using my new phone!! (a useful and thoughtful valentines from leo!)

however! the delay in uploading came from the fact that i hadnt worked out how to transfer the photos from phone to computer! haha, never thought i'd be feeling technologically challenged, but anyway in the end i worked it out!

so here are some of the photos.

hope you're not reading on an empty stomach!

mmmm. yumm!

okay, the second reason for delay is an even sillier one. i'd forgotten my blog login and password!!

after several very unsuccessful attempts and me on the verge of resetting the entire password for my account i decided to actually read the error message, and saw that 'oh, im using the wrong email address aparently'...seems my login is not my hotmail address as i'd thought. so! 3 unsuccessful password attempts using my heidimail email and i finally got in! hooray.

.......

some other news while im online. these days im very very bored. but...

i've finished harry potter now.

im excited about reading the next obernewtyn book (thanks cathy!)

im not really all that thrilled about starting uni. (am i meant to be?)

i bought a new hot pink dress! (shopping with cathy at the Pines)

and even hotter pink shoes! (shopping with louise at Bridge rd)

also today is leo's lunar birthday! i.e. the one he and his family celebrate

though the poor baby has to buy his own birthday cake cos his mum didnt have time!

and i've now driven twice in 1 week, and dodged kangaroos from warrandyte both times.

(dad took the photos).

yep, me behind the wheel ... what is the world coming to??

(some people may feel amused to know that each time we go for a drive i still have to ask my dad at some stage, 'now, which one is the brake and the accelorator again??')

final note: i have no idea what to get simon for 21st...any ideas??
