Eve and So Frenchy So Chic

thursday night vicki, brendan, simon and i decided to go and stand in the cold for an hour and a half, queuing among a crowd of pastel coloured shirts and wanna be at the beach bogans, while free drinks were being consumed by the lucky people who payed full price and weren't on the guest-list of Eve. i was thankful for my big furry cream coat.

once the free drinks time was up they finally let us in and vicki's bladder was finally given some relief. brendan's sister and bf were there cos she's a promoter (and hence got in early for the drinks, but couldnt seem to get us in...grrr), and vicki and i tried to get some room on the dancefloor to actually dance unlike the masses, but it turned into more a 'dodge the lethal stillettos trying to impale my open-toe heeled feet' sort of game. why do only like 10 people of the 60 on the floor dance? if you're not dancing get out of the way!

to my severe dissapointment in my longing for a night out dancing, the dj was crap and the music was unfamiliar and un-danceable. we tried several times anyway. nevertheless we finally retired to the couches and critiqued the 'average aussie guy' and came to a mutual agreement on their undesirability. vicki has pointed out to me that while i thought we were quite normal and ordinary we are in fact very different from others. it hadnt really occured to me before, but perhaps she's right. guess we're a bit up ourselves and have some standards and some intelligence is all.

a trip to nearby Crown after saw brendan and simon playing poker as is to be expected and brendan managed to get $20 or so. not bad, any profit is good if u ask me! lucky for all he quit while the game was good and we got home probably about 3am.

friday was spent mostly sleeping, but friday evening i donned my big cream coat yet again, this time with cream boots for the 'So Frenchy So Chic' concert at the arts centre.

daniel missed his train by 1 minute, but luckily he only had to wait 15mins for another one, and we arrived in good time for the 'free activities from 7pm'. well, we couldnt find any 'free stuff' as we'd hoped for, but we bought some chochettes, a coke, champagne and contemplated cds, looked for posters and looked yet again in vain for some free stuff.

with 10 mins to go til the concert started we went downstairs to find our seats and low and behold the lower level had a screen set up for the short films that were meant to be showing and the packing up of a dj's equipment. so there was some small sort of festivities after all. alas it was downstairs though...

we did have the lucky encounter of meeting a very suave frenchman selling handmade dark chocolates which were oh so smooth just like his accent. daniel summed it up when he said 'i'd pay him just to hear him talk about the chocolates'.

it was very seductive, caramelized almonds have never sounded so attractive. haha

the concert was bizarre in that everyone was seated in the concert hall for almost the entire duration of the performance (a few randoms got up at intervals to dance a little or sway or whatever) and it made the atmosphere very...restrained. like people wanted to get up, but it was too taboo. ohh, and the crowd was really old!! their was next to no young people hence it was very odd to hear 2000 people shouting out the word 'fuck' as requested by Nouvelle Vague, knowing they were all middle aged seated audience members. quite odd.

i thought the music was pretty nice. emilie simon is very petite and cute looking, wearing a white dress (quite like the 'pirate' dress from ICE, a few years back that we liked) with 3 black stars on the back, very complimentary for when she was playing piano.

Nouvelle Vogue were very french stereotypical. we had the token berets, the stripey black and white skivvy, and the sultry french ladies talking about the good 'fuck' they received
in manchester from the audience. the shouting of the word, not the act. ...as far as i know...

the agreed highlight of the evening was Emilie Simon's precussion team. one was clad in a top hat, big long curly black hair and a french moustache and goatie, and the other, well, we knew he meant business when he rolled up his sleeves and proceeded to splash his hands about in a giant clear mixing bowl of water!!! it was tre cool!!!
